Zephaniah 3:14-16
Sing for joy, O Daughter of Zion; shout aloud, O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O Daughter of Jerusalem! The LORD has taken away your punishment; He has turned back your enemy. What does God forbid in the eighth commandment?
God forbids not only outright theft and robbery, punishable by law. But in God’s sight theft also includes all scheming and swindling in order to get our neighbor’s goods for ourselves, whether by force or means that appear legitimate, such as inaccurate measurements of weight, size, or volume; fraudulent merchandising; counterfeit money; excessive interest; or any other means forbidden by God. In addition God forbids all greed and pointless squandering of his gifts.

The season
Ordinary Time — the long green season after Pentecost
From the day after Pentecost until Advent begins in late November — roughly half the year, all summer and autumn.
"Ordinary" here does not mean unremarkable. It comes from the same root as "ordinal" — these are the counted weeks, numbered one after another from Pentecost all the way to Advent. It is the longest season of the church year, roughly half of it, covering the whole green stretch of summer and autumn, and it has no headline feast to organize it. That is deliberate. The festival half of the year announces what God has done — birth, death, resurrection, Spirit. Ordinary Time is where the church practises living as if all of that were true, in weeks that look exactly like the ones before them. It opens with Trinity Sunday, naming the whole mystery at once, and it ends with the last Sundays turning toward judgment and hope, just before Advent starts the year again in the dark. Most of the Christian life is lived here. The season simply admits it.
The 13th week after Pentecost counts the church’s long walk of ordinary faithfulness between the Spirit’s arrival and the year’s end.
